Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What states do you serve?
We serve clients in Virginia and North Carolina through telehealth. If you are located anywhere in Hampton Roads, including Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, or Newport News, we can meet with you virtually. North Carolina clients are welcome to reach out as well.
Q: How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If something in your life feels hard right now, whether it is your mood, your relationships, your thoughts, or something from your past, therapy can help. You do not have to be in crisis to reach out. If you have been thinking about it, that is usually reason enough to start.
Q: What happens at my first appointment?
Your first session is mostly a conversation. Your therapist will ask what is bringing you in, what your life looks like right now, and what you are hoping to get out of therapy. You do not have to have all the answers. You just have to show up.
Q: Is telehealth therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes. Studies consistently show that telehealth therapy produces results that are comparable to in-person sessions for most people and most concerns. For a lot of clients, not having to drive somewhere actually makes it easier to show up consistently. And showing up consistently is what creates real change.
Q: What do I need for a telehealth session?
A private space, a reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone. A smartphone, tablet, or laptop all work just fine. Your therapist will send you a secure link before your session.
Q: Do you take my insurance?
We accept a wide range of commercial insurance plans, Medicaid, private pay, and EAP programs for clients in Virginia and North Carolina. Check the full list in the insurance section, or reach out before you book and we will help you verify your coverage.
Q: How long does therapy take?
Honestly, it depends. Some people come for a few months to work through something specific. Others find longer term support helpful. Your therapist will talk through this with you and help figure out what makes sense for your situation. There is no pressure either way.
Q: What if I've never been to therapy before?
That is completely okay. A lot of people we work with are starting for the very first time. It can feel a little uncertain at first, and that is normal. Your therapist will help you feel comfortable and go at whatever pace works for you.
Q: Is everything I share kept private?
Yes. Everything discussed in your sessions is confidential. There are a small number of legal exceptions, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. Your therapist will walk you through all of this clearly at your first session so you know exactly where you stand.
Q: What if I'm in crisis right now?
Please do not wait for an appointment. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If you need someone to talk to right now, call or text 988. It is the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. It is free, confidential, and available any time of day or night.
